Start with the essentials

Start with the money your household actually receives, after work expenses. Write down essential bills and their due dates before setting a savings target. A useful budget reflects your income and responsibilities; it does not depend on a perfect percentage.

What you can do

  1. List a month of rent, food, utilities, transport and medicines. Keep annual school expenses in a separate list.
  2. Choose a first reserve target you can reach. Keep it accessible and separate from everyday spending.
  3. Review the plan after a low-income week or an unexpected bill. Rebuild the reserve gradually after using it.

Keep in mind

For example, setting aside ₹500 each week adds up to ₹2,000 over four weeks before interest. That is an illustration, not a required savings amount. Start smaller if essentials already use most of your income.
