Start with the essentials
NPCI warns that scanning a payment QR and entering a UPI PIN are used to send money, not to receive it. A caller asking you to share your screen to arrange a refund is a serious warning sign.
What you can do
- Check the displayed recipient and amount before approving a payment.
- Never reveal a PIN or OTP, or install a remote-access app at a stranger’s request.
- If money is taken without permission, contact your bank through its official app or number promptly.
Keep in mind
A familiar logo or caller ID is not proof of identity. Find the official contact yourself instead of using a number sent by the caller.
