Start with the essentials

Park on level ground in good light and let hot parts cool. A visual inspection supplements scheduled servicing; it does not prove that the motorcycle is mechanically safe. Keep notes so a new change is easier to spot.

What you can do

  1. Inspect tyres for visible damage and check cold pressures against the manual.
  2. Test headlamp, indicators, brake lamp and horn before leaving.
  3. Look for leaks, loose parts and changes in brake feel; book repairs before riding if needed.

Keep in mind

Leave brake repairs, wheel removal and electrical faults to a competent technician unless you have the training and correct tools.
