Start with the essentials

Check local air-quality information and consider a less exposed route when feasible. A helmet visor can help with road debris, while a correctly fitted particulate respirator serves a different purpose. Neither replaces the need to reduce exposure.

What you can do

  1. Keep the visor clean and avoid wiping irritated eyes with dirty hands.
  2. Reduce strenuous outdoor activity during poor air quality where possible.
  3. Seek care for persistent eye pain, wheeze or breathing difficulty.

Keep in mind

People with asthma or heart and lung conditions should follow their clinician’s plan. Seek urgent help for severe breathlessness or chest pain.
