Start with the essentials
Heat risk depends on weather, workload, clothing and health. Move strenuous tasks to cooler times where possible and arrange breaks. People with conditions affecting fluid balance should ask their clinician about an appropriate drinking plan.
What you can do
- Keep drinking water available and take regular breaks in a cooler place.
- Watch colleagues for dizziness, unusual weakness, headache or nausea.
- For confusion, collapse or suspected heatstroke, call emergency services and begin cooling while waiting.
Keep in mind
Move the person to a cool place and cool the skin with water and airflow. Do not give drinks to someone unconscious or unable to swallow safely.
